Abstract

603,673. Trueing rotating tools. CLARKE AIRCRAFT PRODUCTS, Ltd., and ASH, J. T. Oct. 27, 1945, No. 28449. [Class 60] In a centreless grinding machine having a former for non-parallel trueing of both grinding and control wheels situated between the wheels, the normal feed mechanism of the machine is used to advance the diamond or cutter towards either the grinding wheel or the control wheel, by mounting the control member or former for movement with that wheel which is fed towards the other wheel. An arm 13 movable in guides along a line parallel to the axes of the grinding and control wheels 12, 10 carries reversibly a casing 14 containing a spring-loaded plunger, one end of which carries a diamond 16 and the other end of which cortacts the former 20 carried by arms 22 pivoted to the casing 11 of the control wheel 10 which can be fed up to the grinding wheel 12. When trueing the control wheel 10, Fig. 1, an abutment 31 on the arm 22 is held by a spring 37 against a fixed stop 32 carried by the worksupport 33 ; movement of the control wheel towards the grinding wheel then feeds the control wheel to the diamond. When trueing the grinding wheel 12, Fig. 3, the casing 14 is reversed ; another abutment 34 on the arm contacts a screw stop 35 on the casing 11 ; movement of the control wheel towards the grinding wheel then feeds the diamond in to the grinding wheel. On completion of trueing the arms 22 are swung into an upright position.
