Knives, polishing.-A machine for polishing knives and the like has two polishing-wheels b<1>, c<1>, the wheel b<1> being adjustably fixed to the table a of the machine, and the wheel c<1> being slidable to and from the wheel b<1>. The wheel c<1> is carried by a slidable headstock and d i s moved by means of a treadle g connected by a link f to one arm of a bell-crank lever e pivoted to the machine frame and adjustably connected by means of a screw d, engaging the other arm, to the headstock; the treadle is normally held up by a spring g<1>. The work rests on rollers h carried by a slide h<1> operated through a lever j and link j<1> by a treadle k normally held up by a spring k<1>; the travel of the slide is limited by nuts l on a screw l<1> fixed to a bracket l<2> on the table a, an eye h<2> fixed to the slide coming against the nuts at the end of its travel. An adjustable guard m is provided to prevent the hands from coming into contact with the wheels.
