Abstract
790,717. Planing. WALDRICH, O., KAPP, B., WALDRICH, C., HENNES, A. BOEHN-, and KAPP, E., [trading as WERKZEUGMA-. SCHINENFABRIK A. W. COBURG.]. Dec. 16, 1955 [Dec. 18, 1954], No. 36222/55. Class 83 (3). A planing machine comprises a mechanism for moving a tool holder 3 at right angles to the work movement to relieve the tool, means for limiting thetool.. holder movement, and at least two relatively rotatable members co-operating with each other to.lock the tool in working position. In operation, a compressed-air piston 9, acting through a rod 11, adjusting nuts 20; a spring 19 and a plate 17, moves the holder 3 downwardly along guides on an angularly adjustable slide 2 until a plate 49 abuts a fixed stop 50. The spring .19 then yields, and the rod 11 continues its movement to depress a non- rotatable nut 23, causing a screw 25 engaging therewith to rotate. Rotation of the screw causes projections 35 on an axially-fast shaft 27 to engage fixed projections 41, thus locking the holder in position. When the movement of the piston 9 is reversed, the holder is unlocked and is moved upwardly until a piston 48 on the holder abuts a fixed stop 43. The latter stop can be adjusted and secured in position by a toothed plunger 46. Play between the holder 3 and the slide 2 is eliminated by a gib 51 adjusted by a screw 53 and a nut 54.
