Abstract

An end profiler comprises a milling tool 2 which is associated with a longitudinal conveyer 1 for a plurality of workpieces 7 to be machined in succession and cooperates with a counter profile 4, and a drive 5, 6 which constantly applies the profile against the particular workpiece approaching the milling tool and restores it to an initial position after the machining thereof. The counter profile 4 is mounted in a holder 3 which is movable by a lifting device 5 and a pushing device 6 of the drive to position the counter profile at the back of a workpiece 7 as it is carried on the conveyer past the milling tool to avoid tearing the wood fibre, the devices 5, 6 then being operated to lower and return the profile so that it may be engaged with the next workpiece and the tool rotating in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the conveyer to press the workpieces against the counter profile. In another embodiment, the counter profile is positioned in front of the workpieces and the cutter rotates in the same direction as the movement of the conveyer. In a further embodiment, the counter profile is mounted on a swivel arm.
