Abstract

552,836. Making abrasive tools. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO., Ltd., HARLEY, H. H., and WAINWRIGHT, J. E. April 3, 1942, No. 4450. [Class 60] Lapping, polishing, grinding &c. surfaces employed for shaping and finishing industrial diamonds are prepared by arranging one or more loading rollers so as to have a skidding action in line contact therewith, the surface being subsequently rolled if desired. As shown. in Fig. 1, the loading roller 3 is mounted so as to swivel about an axis 6 by means of a handle 11. It is carried by a beam 5 universally pivoted at one end, and may comprise annular sections as shown, or may be helically grooved ; the roller may also be conical. The surface 2 to be prepared may be rotated as shown, or may be reciprocated.
