Abstract
605,032. Axial flow fans. JENNINGS, H. W. K. (Sturtevant Co., B. F.). Dec. 12, 1945, No. 33673. [Class 110 (i)] An axial flow fan, comprising a propeller 13, an electric motor 14 and a casing 12, is provided with inlet guide or spin vanes 16 of adjustable angularity and a byepass, or spill, passage 35 fitted with a damper 36. The vanes 16, which are geared together by bevel wheels 21, 22 and linked levers, and the damper 36 are adjusted simultaneously by means of a hand-lever 46 which rotates cams 31, 43 acting on links 26, 37 connected to the gears 22 and damper 36. The cams are shaped to produce the desired coordination of the two adjustments. In the use of the fan for the forced-draft of a steam generator, the lever 46 is moved automatically by means of an electromagnetic solenoid, the current through which is varied by a rheostat device controlled by the steam-pressure. The fan may be used also for induced draft and, in place of a byepass, air may be discharged from the fan delivery to atmosphere.
