Abstract

747,897. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 21, 1954 [April 27, 1953], No. 11446/54. Class 135. A hollow jet valve 13, Fig. 1, has fluid, at a pressure higher than the valve controlled fluid, supplied to a chamber B within a sliding sleeve 11 carrying the valve and escaping to a lowpressure zone H via a knifeedged cup valve 23 on the end of a hollow control plunger 18 co-operating with the valve. Fluid pressure from a pump passes valve 17, through cylinder B, past the valve constriction C, plunger passage E, and valve 16 to drain. The pressure in B moves the sleeve 11 and valve 13 against the inlet pressure at 4 according to the size of constriction C adjusted by plunger 18 through spindle S and gears 19, 9, 20. The valve 13 controls a by-pass from, and the speed of, a turbine T, Fig. 2, which through a tachometer generator TG and coupled torque motor TM moves a switch arm 43 over resistances 44, 49, adjustably positioned by screw 53, to turn a motor PM for adjusting the spindle S.
