604,940. Non-return valves. ABBEY, A. (Hirshstein, J.). Sept. 5, 1945, No. 22892. [Class 135] A valve for preventing back-flow in a drain line comprises an elbow 15 with an inclined seat at its upper end for a disc valve 23, the latter being pivoted on trunnions slightly less inclined to the vertical so that the valve tends towards the closed position, but is easily opened by flow of water in the normal direction. The valve disc carries an upstanding stud loosely engaging in an aperture in one end of a hinging arm to allow of a limited universal movement to the disc, and the arm at its other end is provided with lugs 30 formed with pivot recesses for pointed bolts 21 screwing through bearing lugs 20. The disc carrying arm is twisted along its length as its pivoting axis and the disc 23 lie in planes which are inclined to each other. The lower end 16 of the elbow may be horizontal or inclined as shown, so that, by rotating the elbow, the pressure required to open the valve can be varied.
