Abstract
402,320. Non-return valves. MARTIN, 0., Bekkelagah÷gda, near Oslo, Norway. April 8, 1933, No. 10547. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1932. [Class 135.] A non-return valve is maintained in closed position under the action of a plurality of pivoted sliding arms, which are spring-pressed against the generally conical surface of a head attached to the valve, the closing force being reduced as the valve opens by a decrease in the angle of the conical surface of the head in relation to the direction of opening movement. In the form shown, the valve 3, which is adapted to open into the vacuum-tube 1, is restrained by springs 9 acting on levers 7 having rollers 6 bearing against the curved surface 10 of the valve-stem. A considerable vacuum is necessary to move the rollers past the shoulder 12 after which they move more easily on the slightly-sloping portion 11 and the valve is easily maintained open until the vacuum in the pipe has greatly diminished. The initial closing is assisted by the spring 13.
