796,162. Valves. SMITH, S. M. July 22, 1955 [July 28, 1954], No. 21333/55. Class 135. In a check valve comprising two semielliptical wings 15, 16, Fig. 2, attached by bolts 30 to an elliptical flexible sealing member 17 secured by bolts 19 to a hinge post 11 fixed across a diameter of a tubular body member 1, the sealing member projects beyond the outer peripheral edges of the wings so that on pressure fluid flowing through the body member from its end 40 to its end 41 the projecting portion of the sealing member is pressed into sealing engagement with the body member to close the valve. Clamp plates 24, 25 secured by the bolts 30 to the wings 15, 16 and the sealing member are formed with projecting cam pieces 90, 91 engageable with a plate 51 secured to and rotatable by an operating spindle 52 passing out through the body member so that the valve may be positively closed to prevent flow from the end 41 to the end 40.
