Abstract
671,546. Gate valves. TEDDINGTON CONTROLS, Ltd. Feb. 26, 1951 [Dec. 5, 1949], No. 31144/49. Class 135. A gate valve comprises a gate member 6 slidable between sealing rings 7 concentric with the flow passage 3 through the body 1, and mounted in members 8 supported by diaphragm 9 clamped in the body by rings 11, the sealing rings being spring- pressed against the gate member. The diaphragms are mounted in pockets 13 in the body having access to the passage 3, whereby when the valve is closed, the spring-loading of the sealing ring on the inlet side of the gate member is augmented by fluid pressure on the associated diaphragm. The faces of the gate member may be dimpled to reduce friction, and the members may be moved by a crank 14 operable manually or by an electric motor. The sealing ring on the outlet side of the gate member may be fixed in the body.
