Abstract
604,722. Printing - machines; feeding sheets. NICHOLSON, F. A., and McGANLEY, J. W. Dec. 3, 1945, No. 32565. [Classes 100(i) and 100(ii)] A printing-machine of the kind in which an impression cylinder B reciprocates in a vertical path and co-operates with a vertical printing bed is constructed with means for ensuring correct register of the sheets with the front lay comprising feed bands 1, 1A mounted on rollers 2, 2A, 4, 4A supported in a feed table A, the sheets being deposited by known means upon the table A when the cylinder B is in its uppermost position. The table A descends with the cylinder B and when an arm 8 attached to the shaft 3 of the rollers 2, 2A engages a roller 9 carried by an adjustable socket 29 the rollers 2, 2A advance the bands so as to ensure that the deposited sheet is fed correctly to the front lays. The shaft 3 returns under spring action to the position shown in Fig. 1 on ascent of the cylinder B. The arm 8 is formed as shown in Fig. 5 of two parts 8A, 8B connected by a hinge 13 and normally maintained in the position shown in Fig. 5 by a spring 14 held in position by screwed plates 15, 16. The part A8 is connected to the shaft 3 by a grub screw 17, and the part 8B can be moved to dotted line position when the feed mechanism is adjusted to permit of make ready. The shaft 3 is mounted in adjustable bearings 7, 7A, Fig. 3.
