689,417. Feeding sheets. FABER & SCHLEICHER AKT.-GES. Jan. 10, 1951 [Jan. 10, 1950], No. 711/51. Class 100(i) Side registration; sheet guides.-A device for registering sheets laterally in printing &c. machines comprises combined stops 23 and a top guide or cover 22 mounted for oscillation about an axis 12 extending parallel to the feed direction of the sheets, the height of the guide 22 being adjustable by screw-means 24, 25. The axis 12 is a bolt arranged in a housing unit 1 which is slidably mounted on a stationary shaft 2 and a parallel drive shaft 3. A lever 13, pivoted on the bolt 12, has a lower arm 13a carrying a roller 15 engaging a cam 16, an upper arm 13c connected to a screwthreaded link 19a in a screw-threaded bush 19 and and urged counterclockwise by a spring 18, and a horizontal arm 13b carrying a roller 17. In the position shown, the roller 17 co-operates with an oscillating segmental lever 5, pivoted at 6, carrying a roller 8 engaging a cam 9, to move the sheet transversely towards the stops 23. The cams 9, 16 form part of a sleeve 10 driven by the shaft 3. A second lever 14, also pivoted on the bolt 12, has a horizontal arm 14b urged upwardly by a spring 26, and a vertical arm 14a carrying a block 21 to which the guide 22<SP>1</SP> with attached stops 23, is secured. An adjustment screw 24, with lock nut 25, limits the distance between the guide plate 22 and the feed plate of the housing 1. Fine lateral adjustment of the register housing 1 relative to the shaft 2 is effected by a screw 27 passing through a bracket 28 fixed to the shaft 2 by a set-screw. In operation, the cam 16 rocks the lever 13 so that the horizontal arm 13b is raised to strike the arm 14a and so raise the guide 22 and stops 23. When a sheet has been fed on to the feed table up to the front stops of the machine, the roller 17, guide and stops are lowered, and the roller co-operates with the segment 5 to move the sheet laterally against the stops 23.
