Abstract
26,906. Carter, W. Nov. 18. Feeding sheets.-A layer-on table of a printing, folding, &c. machine of the kind in which the table is given a slight diagonal movement to register the sheets, is constructed with curved or angular symmetrical guideways adapted to reciprocate the table to carry the sheet forwards against the front stops and sideways to either the right or left against an adjustable side gauge which rests freely on the moving table. An adjustable sheet-rest with blades at the sides like a fan is arranged in front of the table. The sheets are fed over this rest, which is formed of laths 17 attached as shown to a baseboard 18 mounted in lugs 20 on the layer-on table a and adjustable by means of a set-screw 21, Fig. 2. A roller y feeds the sheets over the table a, and guide fingers 23 presses the sheets on the table as they move to the front stops. Each sheet is accurately registered by giving the table a a diagonal movement in the direction of the arrow w, or x, Fig. 1, and the sheet is thus moved against a side gauge 15 which is shown as arranged for a movement in the direction of the arrow w, but this gauge may be arranged at the other side of the table. The gauge 15 rests on the table freely, being carried by a forked lever 14 pivoted to a lug 13 on a curved plate 12 secured to an angularly-adjustable block 8, which is finely adjuatable on a screw 9 and is carried bv a split collar 3, 4, adjustably secured to a frame rod 2 by means of a set-screw 6. The table a is supported by feet c, b which rest on a frame piece d. The feet c are freely supported, but the feet b are provided with slotted bases i guided by grooved blocks e secured to the frame d. The table a is oscillated in the direction of the arrow w by means of a connecting-rod k secured to the arm n of a spring- controlled three-armed lever n, o, p which is oscillated by a cam &c. The rod k is provided with two holes u, t, and a pin m is arranged to pass through these holes and connect the rod k to the arm n or to the arm p ; in the latter case the table moves in the direction of the arrow x and the gauge 15 is arranged on the other side of the machine.
