[Class 100 (i).] Sheets are fed from a feed table 6 to the impression cylinder 12 of a rotary printing- machine by means which accelerate the sheet during its withdrawal from the front stops 7 to a speed greater than that of the cylinder 12 so as to permit of greater time for registration of the sheets. To lengthen the path of the sheet between the table 6 and the cylinder 12, the table 6 is arranged at a higher altitude than is usual. In one form, Fig. 1, the sheets are fed by oscillating grippers 3 to grippers 1 mounted freely on an arm 9 carried on the axis of a transfer cylinder 2. The arm 9 is accelerated relatively to the cylinder 2 after it has gripped the sheet, and it is finally retarded to the speed of the grippers 11 of the impression cylinder 12 at the time of transfer of the sheet - to the grippers 4. In a modification the grippers 1 are mounted on a cylinder 13, Fig. 4, of greater diameter than the cylinder 12, and the gripper cylinder is driven at variable speed so as to accelerate the sheet after it is gripped and to slow down to the speed of the cylinder 12 at the time of sheet transfer. In a further modification a feed cylinder 13 moves at a constant speed greater than that of the cylinder 12, and a freely mounted gripper arm thereon is moved reversely relatively to the cylinder 13 after the sheet is withdrawn from the stops 7 so as to cause the grippers 11, 1 to move at the same speed at the time of transfer.
