[Class 100 (i)] In a sheet-feeding device of the kind in which sheets are separated from a pile and fed to a printing - machine by means of grippers and sheet-registering devices rotating together on a cylinder, the feed cylinder 1 is fitted with several groups of grippers 2, and with each group of grippers is arranged a set of drawgrippers 3, which pull the sheets into contact with stops 13 for registering the sheets longitudinally, and the sheets are registered against one of a pair of sidegauges 19 by means of draw-grippers 4. The grippers 2 are arranged to act as pneumatic separators and to separate the sheets from a pile 38 in conjunction with an air blast device 12. Alternatively ordinary grippers 2 may take the sheet from an independent sheetseparating device. The sheet is held on the feed cylinder 1 for more than a half revolution before being delivered to the impression cylinder of a machine which may be an offset printing machine. The grippers 1 are controlled by a stationary cam 35, Fig. 7, and pins 33, 29 act to close the grippers at the feed position I, Fig. 7, and open them at the delivery position V, Fig. 7, respectively. Soon after the grippers 2 have closed on the sheet they are released from it to permit of the operation of the registering grippers 3, 4, the grippers 3 moving in a clockwise direction before gripping the sheet and then in a reverse direction after gripping it so as to draw the leading edge into contact with the front stops 13. The sheet is simultaneously drawn against one of the side-registering stops 19 by a gripper 4 mounted on a spring-controlled rod 22 or 23. The grippers 3 are actuated by an oscillating- lever 20 fitted with a roller 16 moving on a stationary cam 17, and by segmental gears the roller 16 actuates cams 18 which control the rods 22, 23. The grippers 3, 4 are fitted with gripper pads 26, which are yieldingly mounted in such a manner that the pads on the grippers 3 can yield in either direction laterally so as to conform with the movements of the sheet produced by the sideregistering grippers. The pads on these grippers 4 can move in a longitudinal direction so as to conform with the movements of the sheet produced by the grippers 3.
