446,462. Delivery apparatus for printing-machines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AKT. - GES., 7, Stadtbachstrasse, Augsburg, Germany. July 18, 1935, No. 20502. Convention date, July 18, 1934. [Class 100 (i)] In delivery apparatus for sheet-printing machines in which the sheet before delivery on the pile is gripped at its front and back edges by grippers, the back grippers moving in the same direction as the front grippers and retarding the sheet after it has been released by the front grippers, the back grippers 9 are guided on an endless chain 10 and grip the sheet 8 after it passes the chain wheel 11 remote from the pile 14, and guide the sheet positively over the chain wheel 12 located near the pile up to the end position of the sheet on the pile, whilst retarding the sheet in known manner until its horizontal velocity is reduced to zero. The sheet 8, after being printed by the cylinder 2 of an intaglio printing-machine, is taken from the impression cylinder 1 by front grippers 4 secured to an endless chain 3. The sheet is drawn over steel bars 5 which are secured at one end to bars 6, and are bent downwardly in a vertical direction and secured at the other end to bars 7 ; the vertical portions of the bars 5 serve as rear stops for the sheet pile 14. As soon as the rear end of the sheet 8 passes the chain wheel 11, it is gripped by the grippers 9 which move at the same speed as the grippers 4. When the sheet is over the pile 14, the grippers 4 open, and at this point the grippers 9 are moving downwardly around the chain wheel 12 whereby the horizontal velocity of the sheet is reduced to zero. The grippers 9 then open so that the sheet is delivered on the pile against the bars 5. The sheet may not be released by the grippers 9 until the latter are moving horizontally away from the pile to ensure that the sheet is deposited against the bars 5. The pile table is lowered automatically. The grippers 9 are rigidly connected with a lever 15, the lower end of which is guided on an endless chain 16 to ensure that the grippers always maintain their operative position in relationship to the sheet 8. The chains 10, 16 are driven through gears from the impression cylinder 1, one of the gears consisting of a hub and an adjustable toothed ring, whereby the grippers 9 can be adjusted to suit the length of the sheet to be delivered. The front sheet stop 31 of the pile is pivoted at 32 so that it can be moved to enable the top sheet of the pile 14 to be withdrawn.
