Abstract
603,886. Hooks. MACCLUNEY, W. R. Nov. 2, 1945, No. 29191. Convention date, July 19. [Class 89 (ii)] A safety releasing hook has pivoted mousing and retaining members and has the line of pull passing through both the attachment pivot for the hook and the pivot of the mousing device. The body of the hook is formed by flat plate members 4 with off-set ends 21, 22 for the pivot pins 6, 7 which are shouldered to act also as distance pieces for the members. The attachment link 8 is loosely pivoted on the pin 6 and the pin 7 loosely mounts the mousing piece 9 which is L-shaped with the arm 10 passing between the members 4, in the closed position, and resting on a further shouldered connecting pin 20. A fourth shouldered pin 16 acts also as pivot for a curved retaining member consisting of plates 14 straddling the member 4 and cranked in beyond a shouldered connecting pin 13 to straddle the part 9. The ends are bent up at 17 and have a cross connection 18 that serves for the attachment of a releasing lanyard. The pin 13 engages a projection 10<1> on the mousing piece to maintain the hook closed and assist in carrying the load. Projections 26 on the arm 10 coact with projections 25 on the arms 14 to maintain the hook closed. The arms are sufficiently flexible to allow the projections to pass.
