Abstract
603,693. Preventing freezing of moisture in compressed air mains. HYMATIC ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., (formerly, HEYWOOD COMPRESSOR CO., Ltd.), MOREILLON, A. E., and HUNT, J. A. Oct. 29, 1945, No. 28541. [Class 55(ii)] In apparatus for preventing freezing in compressed air or gas systems, the compressed air inlet c into a container a for freezing point depressant such as methyl alcohol is arranged so that the air admitted above the surface heats or agitates the depressant. In place of a tube f with outlet g, a downwardly directed bore through the air inlet plug b may cause the air to impinge on the surface of the depressant. A spring - loaded non- return valve e . is disposed in the container outlet. The container may be disposed in a bye-pass between the compressor and an after-cooler, a manually or thermostatically operating bye-pass valve providing for any proportion of air passing through the container. In an arrangement as for aircraft or other vehicles in which the compressor is kept running being driven by the power plant, a regulator is caused to return air to the compressor inlet on a predetermined pressure being reached in an air reservoir, so as to off-load the compressor.
