Abstract

790,328. Compressor plant. AUSTLAND, Ltd. July 10, 1956 [July 18, 1955 ; Oct. 3, 1955], Nos. 20729/55 and 28140/55. Class 8(1). Means for the winning of coal or other minerals in underground mines by the use, at the working face, of a blasting device 4 from which compressed gas at a blasting pressure is controllably releasible comprises a first compressor 1 remotely situated from the working face and adapted to produce compressed gas at a pressure substantially below blasting pressure, a supply line 3 connecting the output of the first compressor to the input of a second compressor 2 which is located adjacent the working face and which is adapted to further compress the gas to blasting pressure and a supply connection 5 between the output of the second compressor and the blasting device 4. A potential danger point 10, e.g., a blow-off valve or water trap which if opened to atmosphere would discharge with an undesirably violent effect is enclosed in the low pressure air line 3 by means of loop 11 provided with a valve 12 permitting escape to atmosphere through line 13 or to low pressure line 14. The low pressure air surrounding the danger point provides means for cooling said point. In Fig. 4 the danger zone 21 in the high pressure system is enclosed in a casing 22 having an inlet 25 and outlet 26 for low pressure air. If water supply lines are available, water may be passed through the chamber 24 and also be used for cooling the discharge tubes 4.
