Abstract
647,637. Gas generating cartridges. ROTAX, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1948, Nos. 31853/48 and 10843/49. [Class 9 (i)] An engine-starting cartridge has a shell a closed at the forward end by a perforated plate b secured to which is a thin sheet metal sealing disc .d. The disc may be annular and be secured by welding or brazing. A second perforated plate c is spaced from the plate b ; this second plate may be omitted. The perforations in the plate b are such that the disc d is supported against the pressure of gases from an adjacent fired cartridge. Fig. 3 shows a housing to accommodate three cartridges. The gases from the fired cartridges pass to a turbine through a duct f and an exit g. A destructible layer i of heat-insulating material may be placed behind the plate b.
