Abstract

603,627. Thread-treating apparatus. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Dec. 12, 1945, No. 33586. Convention date, June 1. [Class 120(ii)] Apparatus for twisting threads comprises a thread-storing, thread-advancing reel having a thread-carrying surface, the reel being supported from one end only, means for imparting thread-advancing motion away from the supported end of the reel, and a stationary member 6<SP>1</SP>c terminating in a knob end 41c having an annular thread-receiving portion projecting from the discharge end of the reel. The reel may comprise two cylindrical members 9c, 10c, carrying interdigitating fingers or bars 12c, 13c, the member 10c being mounted with its axis slightly offset and inclined with respect to that of the member 9c. The thread-receiving member 6'c is carried by a rod 40c extending through the hollow shaft 11c which drives the reel. In the modification of Fig. 4, a reel member 51 having bars 52 is mounted upon a stationary stub shaft 50 and is driven by a gear 53. The reel member 55 is mounted upon a projection 54 of the shaft 50 arranged eccentrically and inclined thereto. Bars on the member 55 interdigitate with the bars 52. The knobbed inductor 6'd is screwed to the shaft projection 54. A further modification, similar, in many respects, to the construction shown in Fig. 5 of Specification 587,949, to which reference is made, is described. Specification 587,976 also is referred to.
