Abstract

1,000,834. Sifting apparatus. PROCTOR & GAMBLE Ltd. Oct. 6, 1961 [Oct. 6, 1960], No. 36097/61. Heading B2H. A separating device, for use with tacky materials, comprises a layer of parallel wires strung between two ends of a frame and tensioned, the wires being divided into two groups the wires of one group being interspersed alternately with those of the other group and means for oscillating one group relative to the other, the oscillations being in planes intersecting the plane of the layer. The wires are raised by means of alternately rising cylindrical cross members 39, 40, Fig. 1, two of which are situated toward each end of the separator. The wires 44, Fig. 5, of one group are raised on grooved ridges 42 of the pair of cross members 39 while the wires of the other group are returning to rest in the recessed grooves 43 of members 39. Similarly while the wires of the one group are returning to rest in the grooves 43 of cross members 40 the wires of the other group are being raised on the wire lifter ridges 42 of the pair of cross members 40. Alternatively one group may be returned to rest before the other group is raised. As a further alternative only a certain number of wires of each group may be oscillated. The cross members 39, 40 are rotatable on stub shafts 38, 41, Fig. 3, (and Fig. 6, not shown), which project from the inside face of rocking plates 33, and the rocking plates are rockable about the axis of stub shafts 31 by means of a motor 17 the rotation of which is converted to a reciprocating motion acting through rods 26 and cam followers 25. The connecting rods 26 are so coupled that the rocking plates 33 rock in phase opposition. The wires are tensioned by means of piano tuner type pins on the separator frame.
