682,135. Making bolts &c. B.E.V.I. BULLONERIA E VITERIA ITALIANA SOC. R. L. Feb. 22, 1951 [Feb. 27, 1950], No. 4287/50. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). Drawing.-A method of obtaining a wire or rod having along its length alternate portions of at least two different diameters or crosssections, or both, such as is used for the production of roll-threaded bolts, consists in submitting a wire or rod 2 of initially constant cross-section to a first drawing process so as to produce thereon spaced portions 5 having a reduced diameter or altered cross-section, and then drawing those portions treated in the or a preceding drawing process. A first pair of drawing die-halves 4, 4, may convert wire portions into portions 5 of elliptical section, drawing die halves 6, 6, then operating on the portions 5 to convert them to reduced circular section portions 3. In one form of apparatus, movable die halves 13, 22 of first and second pairs 12, 13 and 22, 23, respectively, are reciprocated towards and away from a wire 11 by cams 17 and 19.
