732,627. Making gear wheels. KREIDLER, A. Sept. 3,1953 [Sept. 11, 1952], No. 24341/53. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Drawing; extruding.-Steel gear wheels are made by extruding a billet through a die 3 to form a bar a having a cross-section corresponding to that of the gear wheels, and then separating the bar into individual gears. A mandrel 10 may be used to form a hollow bar. The cross-section of the extruded bar is preferably slightly larger than that of the required gears, and the bar is then drawn through a sizing die 7, Fig. 3 (not shown). A circular saw is used to cut the bar into individual gears. The steel is preferably of the hardenable type.
