1,054,507. Making girders. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNO - KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT METALLURGICHESKOGO MASHINOSTROENIA. Sept. 28, 1965, No. 41120/65. Headings B3A and B3W. A method of making lengths of channel section includes the steps of rolling a channel with a curved web and outwardly splayed flanges, Fig. 1 (not shown), cutting the channel into lengths with flying shears, and straightening the web to obtain the desired cross-section. This arrangement minimizes damage to the channel in the cutting operation. The blades of the shears, Fig. 2 (not shown), may be shaped to match the section as rolled and the straightening operation may be carried out with rolls, Fig. 3 (not shown).
