In the apparatus of the parent Specification, the feelers are dispensed with and the twister-tube f is mounted in a housing a, the two being so connected that the housing is rotated continuously and the tube is rotated intermittently. The intermittent rotation is brought about by moving the tube relatively to the housing by mechanical or electrical means so that the two are brought intermittently into driving engagement. The tube f carries a disc d which is freed against a driven pulley a by the pressure of the incoming sliver, and also,if desired by the light spring shown. A reciprocated fork applied at g, intermittently moves the disc off the pulley. In other forms, the internal spring shown is replaced by external springs or by magnets, and the fork by an intermittently-energized electromagnet co-operating with a magnetic ring on the sleeve. Alternatively, conical surfaces on the tube may be intermittently moved to engage one on the pulley.
