584,950. Delivering thread. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. July 24, 1944, No. 14081. Convention date, July 29, 1943, [Class 120 (ii)] Reel mechanism for the delivery and treatment of thread &c. comprises a set of spaced bars rotatably mounted as a unit, a second set of spaced bars alternating with those of the first set, supporting means for the second set rotatably mounted on an axis eccentric to the axis of the first set, the bars of the second set being axially slidable with respect to the supporting means therefor, means for imparting relative rotation between the bars and the eccentric axis, means for imparting axial motion to a part of the bars of the second set with respect to the first set at predetermined intervals in their relative rotation and resilient means for controlling said axial motion. The bars of the first set 2 are carried by members 4, 5 rotatable on bearings 8 on the shaft 7 which carries end caps 9 with non-circular ends engaging in hangers 10 so to prevent the shaft 7 from rotating. The members 4, 5 are rotated by gearing 33, 34. The bars of the second set 3 are formed in three groups and carried by spiders 19, 20 rotatable with a bushing 25 on an eccentric portion 30 of the shaft 7. The bars 3 of each group are also reciprocated longitudinally by a stationary cam 24, through a roller 22, being returned by a compression spring 21. Flexible sealing membranes 31, 32 may be fitted to prevent treating fluid from entering'the working parts. The cam 24 and eccentric portion 30 are so arranged that the bars 3 are projected beyond the bars 2 when the longitudinal reciprocation takes place. In the modification of Fig. 4, the shaft 45 is rotated by a gear 46 to rotate the bars 42. The intermediate bars 43 formed in segments 8 carried by a spider 53, rotate about an eccentric bushing 56 and are reciprocated longitudinally by a stationary cam 50, through a roller 65, being returned by a spring 63. In a further modification, each bar 30 and 43 may be separately mounted and provided with a cam follower. The arrangement of Fig. 1 may be further modified by driving the shaft 7 so that by differential rotation between the shaft 7 and the bars 2 the frequency of operation of the bars 3 may be varied.
