Abstract
650,167. Thread-advancing reels. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Feb. 2, 1948, Nos. 2968 and 2969. Convention dates, Feb. 5, 1947. [Class 120(ii)] A thread-advancing reel comprises a .series of threadcarrying bars 5, 6 divided into a pularality of interdigitating sets and arranged parallel to one another and approximately in the form of a cylinder, the bars each being mounted on a rotating central shaft 7 by means including a cam-operated radially reciprocating member 18 for each bar revolving with it, whereby the bars are caused to reciprocate radially and individually in accordance with their angular position, and also cam means for causing the bars to reciprocate lengthwise and individually in accordance with their angular position. The bars 5, 6, each of which comprises an inner member 26 and an outer slider 23, are preferably arranged in two sets, the radial reciprocation being effected by rollers 33, 34 which engage in cam grooves 31, 32 in a stationary member 29 and the lengthwise reciprocation being effected by the rollers 38, 47 which engage, under spring pressure at 42, stationary cams 41, 49. Ball bearings 27 are positioned between the parts 23, 26 of each bar and ball bearings 21 are positioned between the members 18 and their guiding slots 16. The blocks 18 may be replaced by two parallel cylindrical guide shafts. A contoured strip 51, Fig. 4, having grooves 52, may be fitted to each bar so that compensation for change in length of treated thread may be made.
