Abstract

601,274. Walls. STROYER, W. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24435. Convention date, May 1, 1943. [Class 20(iv)] A hollow wall comprises a wooden framework covered on both sides with sheet material, the framework being formed of a number of uniform and standardised frame-like elements arranged side by side each element consisting of a pair of parallel longitudinal members 4 interconnected by at least three cross members 5 forming narrow openings therebetween. As shown a base plank 2, with a guide strip 3 of V-section, is bolted to the concrete foundation 1, a number of frame units are placed side by side thereon with triangular grooves in the studs 4 engaging guide strips at the top (not shown) and bottom, and both sides faced with boards. The outer boards 6 must be waterproof, e.g. concrete with asbestos or saw dust, and the inner boards 7 heat insulating, e.g. millboard. The wall may be further insulated by placing a second row of units 8 on the inner side of boards 7, and facing these with wall boards 9. The cross members 5 are joined to the studs 4 by swallow-tail grooves 12 the distance between members 5 not exceeding the thickness of the wall, and these spaces may be filled with porous material, e.g. dried sea-weed, or crumpled paper. The framework units are of the same height of the house or a storey, and the same width, or a part of the width, of the lining boards.
