Abstract
601,269. Wave-guides. MULLETT, L. B. Aug. 14, 1945, No. 20949. [Class 40 (v)] A sealing device for a wave-guide 12 comprises two parallel sheets 10, 11 of non-conductive material such as cellulose acetate, each disposed normal to the axis of the guide and spaced apart by a quarter-wavelength of the operating frequency. The sheets 10, 11 form part of a box-like structure made by bending round a sheet 15 and cementing at 16 to form a hollow tube which is a snug fit in the wave-guide. Sheets 10, 11 are cemented at their edges to the inside of the tube 15 which is cemented to the inside of the wave-guide, thus forming a seal. The axial length of tube 15 is one-halfwavelength, and walls 10, 11 are placed at oneeighth-wavelength from each end. Wall 11, which is nearer to the inner or sealed section of the wave-guide, has a small central perforation 13 to establish the same pressure and character of dielectric in the space between walls 10, 11 as in the sealed section of the guide.
