Abstract
611,383. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. April 30, 1946, No. 12997. Convention date, May 2, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] In a discharge tube the lead-in 4 for an electrode 7 is protected against the discharge by a moulded ceramic sleeve 6 sealed to the glass wall of the tube or an extension thereof; a space 11, the bounding walls of which form an oblique angle with the axis of the electrode, is left between the ceramic member and the electrode to form a long leakage path between the electrode 7 and its gauze screen 8. The ceramic member may have a conical edge 9 for centring the electrode, and may have one or more grooves to prevent the formation of a continuous conducting layer, Fig. 2 (not shown).
