Abstract

600,298. Reciprocating pumps. a BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 30, 1945, No. 28785. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1944. Addition to 597,690. [Class 102 (i)] In a pump having a pumping chamber 38, the volume of which is increased and decreased alternately by the piston or driving means 14, and which has inlet valves 40 and delivery valves 51, the delivery being restricted when the outlet pressure exceeds a predetermined value, the pump also comprising a delivery chamber 66 with a spring-urged movable wall 58 carrying the delivery valve which normally isolates the delivery from the pumping chamber but which, when the pressure in the delivery chamber exceeds a predetermined value, together with the movable wall is pressed back, as described in the parent Specification, the piston 14, towards the end of its stroke, mechanically engages the delivery valve 51 to open it positively. The end wall of the piston 14 opens on to the inlet valve 40 the stem 44 of which is slidable in the wall and the margin 47 of which seats on the wall. A central recess 18 in the inlet valve is adapted to receive a stud 80, which secures the delivery valve 51 to the movable wall 58, when the piston 14 approaches its outermost point, a resilient covering 78 absorbing the shock of impact.
