Abstract
Printing-inks are formed from a vehicle consisting of a non-aqueous solution in a liquid polyglycol of a water-miscible salt formed by reacting substantially equimolar proportions of a resin and an amine, such as triethanolamine, ethylene diamine, or morpholine. The resins may be (a) rosin-fumaric adduct, (b) glycerol fumarate, rosin modified, or (c) glycerol phthalate, rosin modified. Resin (a) is prepared from rosin and fumaric acid by diene synthesis. Resin (c) by mixing 92 parts of glycerol, 166 parts of phthalic acid and 160 parts of rosin heated to 200 DEG C. for an hour and three-quarters. An example of a vehicle comprises resin (c) 50 parts (acid number 118); diethylene glycol 50 parts and triethanolamine 15.7 parts. The pH of a 5 per cent solution of the above is 8.1. Ink is prepared from the vehicle by mixing with black or coloured pigments in known ways. Specification 598,576 is referred to.
