Abstract

563,111. Calcium carbonate. FOSTER, W. P., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 14, 1942, No. 12912. [Class 1 (iii)] Calcium carbonate of small and selected size distribution is obtained by carbonating an aqueous lime slurry in the presence of ammonia or an amine. The process is carried out at temperatures below 70‹ C. and preferably between 20‹ and 45‹ C. From 2-20 per cent CaO and 0.5-5.0 per cent of NH3 are present in the slurry. The product is suitable for use as a filler in paints, printing inks or rubbers. Specifications 431,145 and 562,544 are referred to.
