Abstract

In the manufacture of varnishes having as bases resins or fatty oils, the base is heated with less than 10 per cent of the total varnish of an amino-compound prepared either by (1) heating an amine above 200 DEG C. and preferably in vacuo, with an organic isocolloid containing a high molecular fatty acid, such as a fatty oil, wax, or natural resin, or (2) mixing a soap solution of the fatty oils &c. with an aqueous solution of an amine or salt thereof, whereby the desired amino-compound is precipitated and is washed and dried. Linseed oil is heated with a benzidine soap of tung oil and the resin Albertol III L is added. After cooling the product is dissolved in white spirit or turpentine. Amines, especially primary aromatic diamines and monamines of high molecular weight such as benzidine, dianisdine, pp<1>-diaminobenzophenone or b -naphthylamine, benzylethylaniline sulphonic acid, or diaminofuchsonimine may be used. The varnish base or the finished varnish may be vulcanized with the aid accelerators or activators. The amino compound may be mixed with a fatty oil &c. before heating with the varnish base, or the latter may first be modified by the processes described in Specifications 287,943, 289,414, 289,415, 318,562, 321,689, 321,690, 321,691, 321,692, 321,722, [all in Class 91, Oils &c.], 321,727, 337,732, 337,733, [all in Class 95, Paints &c.], 337,734, or 337,735, [both in Class 91, Oils &c.].
