376,413. Ink. DREY, N., Beech House, Edge Lane, Stretford, Lancashire, and FREEDLAND, I., Earlston, Upper Park Road, Broughton Park, Manchester. May 5, 1931, No. 13217. [Class 146 (iii).] An aqueous vehicle for printing inks, particularly intaglio inks, is obtained by dissolving a natural resin in an alcohol, adding an alkyl hydroxy-amino compound, such as ethanolamine, diethanolamine, or triethanolamine, and diluting with water. Other organic solvents such as alkyl ethers and esters derived from ethylene and polyethylene glycols, e.g. ethylene and diethylene glycol monoethyl ethers, may be included. Alcohols derived from hydrogenated cyclic hydrocarbons, such as cyclohexanol, may be used. Casein may be added to increase viscosity. In examples: (1) shellac is dissolved in a mixture of triethanolamine, methylated spirit, and cyclohexanol, water is added and carbon black ground in; (2) rosin and Manilla copal are dissolved in methylated spirit, triethanolamine, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether and water are added, and pigment is ground in, or a watersoluble dyestuff is dispersed ; (3) rosin and colophony are dissolved in methylated spirit or ethyl alcohol and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, triethanolamine, water, and a solution of casein in water containing triethanolamine are added.
