Abstract

Resinous compositions for making steam-setting inks comprise a resinous binder, e.g. ester gum, maleic acid-terpene resins, maleic-modified rosin or rosin-glyceride resins or phenol-resins or phenol-modified cumar resins, a water-miscible solvent, a pigment, and 1-3 per cent of an alkylolamine soluble in said solvent. Compositions specified are (1) varnish A or B, pigment, maco (corn protein), diethylene glycol, rosin, diethanolamine and water, varnish A comprising a mixture of an "Amberol" phenol resin and diethylene glycol, while in Varnish B the "Amberol" resin is replaced by "Amberlite" resin.
