Abstract
1,197,397. Preparation of disazo pigments. CIBA Ltd. 5 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42303/68. Heading C4P. Disazo pigments of formula (I) in which R 1 is an aryl residue, R 2 a naphthalene residue in which the azo, hydroxyl, and carboxylic acid amide groups are in the 1, 2 and 3- positions, R 3 is an arylene residue are prepared by heating a diazo-amino compound containing residue R 1 with a bis-naphthol of formula (II) in aqueous-organic solvent in presence of an organic acid, preferably a polyhalogenated fatty acid at 60-180‹ C. The diazo-amino compounds may be formed from an aryldiazonium salt and a primary or secondary amine including pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine, dicyclohexylamine. Organic solvents include chlorobenzene, nitrobenzene, o-dichlorobenzene pyridine, ethylene glycol, acids specified are formic, acetic, trifluoro, and trichloroacetic.
