Abstract
Polyvinyl chloride, a urea-formaldehyde moulding powder, and acetyl cellulose are coloured by kneading with a dispersible b -copper phthalocyanine, obtained by grinding crude copper phthalocyanine with a solvent-removable substratum and such a quantity of an organic liquid that the mixture remains in powder form during grinding (see Group IV (c)). The composition may also contain inorganic pigments, e.g. titanium white.ALSO:Dispersible b -copper phthalocyanine is obtained by grinding crude copper phthalocyanine with a solvent - removable substratum in presence of a non-ionogenic organic liquid (i.e. a liquid having a dissociation constant less than that of water) boiling below 200 DEG C. until a strongly colouring pigment is formed, the proportion of non-ionogenic organic liquid being at least 2 per cent (based on the weight of mixture) but such that the mixture remains in powder-form during grinding, the substratum being then removed by a solvent, and the pigment dried, if desired. Substrata specified are sodium chloride, sodium sulphate, sodium carbonate, sodium metaborate, calcium chloride, potassium aluminium sulphate, ammonium sulphate, ammonium chloride, sodium ferrocyanide, barium chloride, boric acid, sulphanilic acid, caustic soda or potash, sodium phenolate, phthalic anhydride, p-toluene sulphonamide. Non-ionogenic liquids specified are methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, acetaldehyde, furfural, acetone, ethyl acetate, hexane, benzene, cyclohexane, cyclohexene, carbon tetrachloride, dioxane. Examples describe the grinding of crude copper phthalocyanine with varying combinations of the above substrata and organic liquids, selected so that no mutual reaction takes place. The products are suitable for colouring cellulose lacquers, cellulose esters, resins, rubber, polymers, viscose, printing pastes, wall-paper, and in lithography.ALSO:Rubber is coloured by kneading with a dispersible b -copper phthalocyanine, obtained by grinding crude copper phthalocyanine with a solvent-removable substratum and such a quantity of an organic liquid that the mixture remains in powder form during grinding (see Group IV (c)), followed by vulcanising and moulding.
