Abstract
598,306. Reticule adjustment mechanism. ARGUS, Inc. Feb. 7, 1945, No. 3138. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1944. [Class 97 (i)] In sighting devices, such as telescopes, having means for moving a reticule in two orthogonal directions in a plane normal to the sighting path, the said means comprises two independently movable members supporting a reticule holder therebetween and such that one member guides the reticule during the adjusting movement of the other. In the barrel 11 of a telescope is a tubular support 28, Fig. 6 and 7, on which a bracket 37 is slidably mounted by means of a vertical dovetail connection 35, 36. A holder 42 for the reticule 43 is slidably mounted on the bracket 37 by means of a horizontal dovetail connection 39, 41. The reticule holder 42 also has a vertical dovetail connection 44, 45 with a bracket 46 having a forwardly extending ear 47. Into the brackets 37, 46 are threaded screws 38, 38a respectively, which extend through collar 14 and barrel 11 so that, on rotation of screw 38, the reticule holder 42 will move vertically and, on rotation of screw 38a, the holder 42 will move horizontally. Springs 51, 54 operating in recesses 31, 29 of the support 28 prevent lost motion in the dovetail sockets and backlash in the screws. Each of the screws 38, 38a has a collar 57, which, together with a lock-nut 63, threaded to a flange 62 of collar 14, presses on a seating ring 61 to prevent entrance of extraneous material as shown for screw 38 in Fig. 6. The screw is rotated by a cap 68 enclosing a ratchet click-indicator 71, 73 and carrying a graduated disc 77 co-operating with a fixed pointer on the collar 14 to indicate the degree of adjustment.
