Abstract
597,636. Machinery guards; safety devices. HEYMAN, M. D., and HEYMAN, I. K., [trading as HEYMAN CO.]. July 5, 1944, No. 12803. [Class 80(iv)] [Also in Group XXII] A power press (see Group XXII) includes a transfer arm for moving work-pieces from an intermittently rotated table to beneath the press head. Said arm comprises portion 109 a portion 112 and an end gripping portion 120. The part 112 is hinged to the part 109 at 111 and is normally urged by a spring 113 so that an adjustable stop screw abuts the part 109. If during its movement the arm meets with a resistance, the part 112 tilts against the action of the spring 113 and operates a switch 115 to open a controlling circuit and so prevent the operation of the press. The press head is operated through a one-revolution clutch operated by a trip rod 146 through a bellcrank lever 147, rod 150 and bell-crank lever 152 from a cam 151 on a shaft 62, Fig. 10. Should the switch 115 be opened or should another safety switch 159 be opened by the removal of a safety screen 157, the circuit through a solenoid 145 will be broken. This will release a cradle 156 in which rests a rod 150 and so break the operative connection between the rod and the bell-crank lever 147 and prevent the operation of the one-revolution clutch.
