Abstract
514,157. Controlling aircraft. TAMPIER, R March 26, 1938, No. 9318. [Class 4] An aircraft includes a control surface comprising a relatively small area for use at high speeds and a relatively large area for use at slower speeds and means for actuating one of the areas only after the other has been actuated. In one form, the control surface 3 effective during high-speed flight is operated from a lever 32 through lever and link mechanism and a device 13 similar to that described in Specification 499,503. Extended movement of the lever 32 causes an abutment 31 on a rod 30 to contact one or other of abutments 25, 26 mounted on a rod 24 and connected to return springs 27, 29. The subsequent movement of the rod 24 moves the surface 2 through an irreversible device 4 similar to that described in Specification 496,875. The control surfaces 2, 3 may be hingeably connected in tandem.
