991,598. Machinery guards. W. J. BROWN. Sept. 14, 1961 [June 21, 1960], No. 21768/60. Heading F2J. A guard for a machine tool is arranged, in its fully lowered position, to operate a number of switches 107 simultaneously, the switches being arranged along the width of the guard and connected in parallel to an overriding relay 103. If the guard is correctly lowered, relay 103 is de-energized, and after a short delay relay 114 operates and in turn energizes relay 115. Operation of pedal 102 to close switch 116 then energizes a clutch coil 117 to operate the machine. If the guard is obstructed one or more of switches 107 will be changed over before the rest and relay 114 operates before 103 releases so that the circuit of clutch coil 117 is opened and operation of the machine is prevented. The work table is mounted on a parallel linkage operable by a screw and nut mechanism to adjust the height of the table.
