[Also in Group XXIV] A device for braking and arresting a cutting machine after a belt striker or circuit-breaker mechanism has cut off the power comprises a hand-actuated rod 1 having a block 2 slidably mounted thereon and biased by a spring 4 towards a stop 3 on the rod. The block 2 either carries a pin 5 co-operating with a lever 6 actuating the belt striker fork 7 or, if the machine is electrically operated, actuates a circuit-breaker 8 by means of a trip 9. In either case when the rod 1 has been pulled to a point where either the belt has been moved on to the idler pulley 10 or the circuit has been broken, further pull on the rod causes the block 2 to abut a fixed stop 11, but the rod can continue to be moved until a lug 12 thereon engages a brake lever 13 to brake a driving pulley 15.
