[Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] Driving mechanism for potters' jiggers, 15, Fig. i, and other similar apparatus such as batting- and dish-making machines, comprises a power operated wheel such as 23 mounted on a vertical axis and placed in frictional engagement directly or by a coupler 34, Fig. 5, with a jigger driving wheel 24 also on a vertical arm by means of a push rod 22, Fig. 2, which acts to disconnect the drive on the release of the rod &c. The power operated wheel is preferably mounted on the spindle of an electric motor 19, Fig. 1, which is pivoted as at 17, Fig. 2. In a modification, Fig. 5, the motor is fixed and, the coupler 34 is used, operated by a spring loaded push rod 22 connected to a bell crank 33 pivoted at 32. A spring-cushioning device, Fig. 3, may be incorporated in the push rod 22. When the front end of the rod is actuated the rod slides through a collar 26 compressing springs 29, 30. When the spring 30 is sufficiently compressed it operates the 'rod 22b. Where variable-speed drive is required, a lever 33, Fig. 5, is made vertically slidable and the friction member 34 is bevelled as well as the jigger driving member.
