Abstract

597,609. Wrenches. BARBER, R. G. P., and BIRNIE, A. M. Aug. 23, 1945, No. 21613. [Class 61 (iii)] A spanner more especially for use in confined spaces comprises a handle with a flat jaw 14 adapted to engage one of the flats of the nut &c. and means for holding the jaw in contact with the nut such as a hole 12 engaging a projection 10 on the nut or a projection on the spanner engaging a recess in the nut. Fig. 4 shows a similar spanner with screw adjustment 22 between the part carrying the flat jaw 14 and the other part for driving a screw bush 28 by the aid of an adaptor plug 34 engaging within the bush and having a threaded projection screwing into the tapped hole 12 in the spanner ; a number of plugs 34 of different sizes may be provided to suit a range of bushes or a single plug may be used with a number of enlarging sleeves. Fig. 6 shows a similar spanner adaptor for use on screw bushes comprising a base member 38 with flat jaw 14 to engage one of the flats on the bush head 30, a pin 34 to engage in the bush and a head 40 on the base member 38 enabling it to be operated by an ordinary jaw spanner 42.
