[Class 18] [Also in Group XXV] A security receptacle comprises a box 1 detachably mounted on a plate 20 secured to a support and a latch that serves to hold the lid 3 in the closed position and to secure the box to the plate 20. The walls of the box extend below the bottom 4 to form a recess which encloses the plate 20. A flanged plate 7 is mounted on the inside of the front wall and houses the latch device which consists of a bar 12 slidably mounted on pins 13 and provided at each end with a latch bar 15. Each latch bar 15 has projections 16, 17 which engage with lugs 11, 24 respectively on the lid and the plate 20. A channel shaped strip 6 is secured to the bottom of the box to engage a lip 23 formed on the edge of the plate 20 remote from the lugs 24. The bar 12 and latch bars 15 are urged in an engaging direction by a spring 19 so that the projections engage the lugs on the plate 20 and on the closed lid. To open the box, the bar 12 is moved to disengage the latch bars 15 from the lid and the plate 20 by a key operating a series of tumbler levers 28 and striking an arm 26 on the bar 12. At the same time ,a pawl may be arranged to engage a notch in the bar 12 and maintain the bar in a disengaged position, the pawl being tripped by a lug on the lid when the lid is closed. Alternatively the latch bars may be disengaged from the lid, whilst still securing the box to the plate 20, by part rotation of the key further rotation being necessary to disengage the box from the plate 20. Simultaneously, as the box is disengaged from the plate 20, the latch bars may re-engage the lid so that the box may be lifted by a handle secured to the lid, The box may be constructed of steel and lined with asbestos sheet and the lid may be urged to close by gravity or pneumatic or fluid spring control device.
