Abstract
597,245. Wrapping-machines. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. May 17, 1945, No. 12492. [Class 94 (i)] Articles are fed in succession towards a pocketed sealing member in tuned relation to the feeding of a succession of heat-sealable wrapper blanks across the path of the articles, so that the forward face of each article in turn engages a blank which by co-operation with folding elements is folded over the forward, upper and lower faces of the article with portions extending laterally and rearwardly therefrom, whereafter the sealing member carries the partially wrapped article to a folding and sealmechanism whereat the rearwardly-extending portions of the blank are brought together into a longitudinal seam which is sealed by heated elements and folded on to the rear face of the article so that the wrapper is now in tubular form, whereupon the laterally-extending portions are collapsed to form lateral seams extending from the ends of the article and sealed by heated elements, the sealed packages then being ejected from the sealing member at a delivery station. Blocks of butter which are extruded from a hopper 11 into a moulding chamber 13 are fed by a pusher 14 towards a pocket wheel 19, in timed relation to the feeding of a succession of heat-sealable wrapper blanks 23 across their path, the blanks being severed by cutters 22. Each block engages a blank and is pushed therewith into a pocket 18 of the wheel 19, the sides of the pocket folding the blank over the upper and lower faces of the block. The blank extends rearwardly and laterally from the block. The wheel 19 rotates to bring a new pocket into the receiving position and to bring the block to a sealing station where pivoted arms 29 form the rearwardly-extending flaps into a longitudinal seam 28 which is sealed by means of heated elements in the jaws 32 of the arms 29. The blocks are then carried to a second sealing station, on the way to which the seam 28 is folded over by a stationary folder 33, and where pairs of spreader fingers 34 move the narrow end flaps of the wrapper apart, when the other two flaps collapse into a lateral seam, which is sealed by heated elements 36. In transit to a delivery station, the end seams are folded over by a member 38 and the triangular flaps 37 left by the folding operations are folded over by members 39. At the delivery station, the package is ejected from the pocket by pushers 41 carried on endless chains into a delivery channel 43.
