973,240. Packages; Cartons. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE - GESELLSCHAFT Aug. 7, 1962 [Aug. 15, 1961], No. 30146/62. Headings B8C and B8P. A package, particularly intended for biscuits, comprises a strip, which may be of corrugated cardboard, folded to form a compartment and end-forming insert, and an outer wrapper 2 flexible and preferably transparent which encloses the strip and maintains it in its bent form. Additionally, Fig. 2, an inverted U-shape wrapper 3 which may be of corrugated cardboard is housed between the insert 1 and wrapper 2 and has a lid 3c operable by cutting along a perforated or like demarcation. Apparatus for making, filling and wrapping the insert 1 comprises forks 14 extending from sleeves 17 and folding shoes 15 extending from sleeves 24 which sleeves are keyed to slide along and rotate with shafts 18 and 25 respectively. A horizontal lever 32, Fig. 3, pivoted at 31 has limbs 33 which connect the lever to the sleeves 17 and 24. A web of cardboard cut by a knife 11, Fig. 4a, provides an insert blank which slides in a guide 12 to be received by forks 14. Rotation of lever 32 in the direction of arrow A and simultaneous rotation of shafts 18 and 25 in opposite directions causes deposition of the blank in a transporter 42 attached to a conveyer chain 40 and with the horizontal closing together of the forks and shoes folding of the insert blank to the shape shown in Fig. 2. From the folding station inserts 1 are conveyed intermittently past a filling station (Fig: 4b, not shown) and thence to a wrapping and ejection point where wrapper 2 or wrappers 2 and 3 are applied in known manner. The compartment sizes of the insert may be varied by adjusting the displacements of sleeves 17 and 24.
